We succeeded on time - AgroTerra has completed a complex-sowing season
The AgroTerra Group has completed the sowing season in all regions where it operates. Despite a rare combination of weather conditions, and also limitations related with coronavirus infection and pest infestations, over 90% of the company's sown area is fully compliant with the requirements of technological standards. ‘This year is indeed a very unusual one. Get at least the weather: we have already faced various difficulties individually, but not yet all at once.
At first, it was a warm winter without snow, which allowed the weeds to overwinter safely. Spring brought us heavy rains and hurricanes, and then hot weather came immediately, which caused the soil to compact in the fields. As a result, we sowed longer than usual, but we successfully completed it,’ said Valery Redkin, Director of the AgroTerra Group.
The company coped with the challenges thanks to a flexible system of risk assessment and development of contingency plans for various situations. Crops were quickly resowed wherever necessary; machinery was repaired even at night, if necessary; and fieldwork was carried out at any possible time.
Continuous system improvements implemented by the company have also helped to successfully complete the sowing season. For example, this year AgroTerra changed its approach to machinery repair: the level of readiness became higher as the repair was in progress. Defects identifications were carried out more frequently and the quality of sowing improved.
But perhaps the most important innovations took place in the system of working with operational indicators. Whereas previously indicators were studied once a month, now data is automatically collected and analyzed on a daily basis. The indicators themselves have also changed: managers now not only monitor the resulting indicators (e.g. yields), but also the predetermining ones (number of plants for harvesting, number of plants that emerge after sowing, etc.). This makes it possible to focus on strategic objectives and to analyses deviations from technological standards in more detail and more rapidly.
During the harvest campaign, AgroTerra will also use all these innovations.
